About Maxine I. Dobro

Maxine Dobro is Of Counsel to Iredale & Roth. Max comes to the firm with more than four decades of invaluable experience in criminal law, and with the wisdom and perspective that can only come from a career of top-flight advocacy. She is, by any measure, a dean of the criminal-defense bar in Southern California.

Over the course of that career she has represented hundreds of clients facing the full range of criminal charges. Her matters have included racketeering and gang activity; international and nationwide drug-trafficking conspiracies; alien-trafficking conspiracies; Medicare, securities, mail, and wire fraud; fraudulent billing schemes; murder, rape, arson, kidnapping, and human trafficking; robbery and armed bank robbery; burglary; domestic violence; firearms trafficking; and crimes against children. In these and countless other cases, she has built a depth of experience in both federal and state court that few attorneys can match.

Max is an accomplished courtroom attorney. A veteran of no fewer than fifteen jury trials, she has won acquittals in multiple matters and obtained dismissals and reductions through pretrial motion practice and direct presentations to prosecutors. In sentencing, she has long been recognized for a particular gift: presenting clients as people worthy of empathy and grace.

That gift is most evident in her work with the mental-health issues that can shape a case — questions of insanity, mental decompensation, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and the like. Max knows how to identify these issues, develop the record around them, and present them to a court effectively on a client’s behalf. She approaches this work with uncommon legal skill and equal humanity, restoring to her clients a sense of dignity when they need it most. Max is a graduate of California Western School of Law and Boston University.
